Fractional CEO & COO for small business

a seasoned CEO or COO,
sized to fit your business.

Some businesses need executive leadership before they need, or can justify, a full-time executive. A c2 Legacy fractional leader joins your team part-time to set direction, run the operating rhythm, and build the people and systems that carry the company forward.

Two roles

One sets the direction. The other makes the business run.

Fractional CEOdirection & leadership

For owners ready to step back from running everything, companies at a growth plateau, or businesses heading toward a sale or succession.

What we take on

  • Set strategy and turn it into an annual plan with clear priorities
  • Lead the leadership team and hold it accountable for results
  • Oversee financial performance alongside your CPA or controller
  • Own key customer, partner, and lender relationships
  • Report to the owner or board on progress and decisions
  • Identify and develop the person who will lead next

The result: a business with a clear direction that no longer depends on the owner for every decision.

Fractional COOoperations & execution

For owners who have become the bottleneck, companies whose growth has outrun their systems, or teams where the know-how lives in a few people's heads.

What we take on

  • Install an operating rhythm: weekly metrics, meetings, and follow-through
  • Document core processes so work gets done the same way every time
  • Define roles, reporting lines, and hiring priorities
  • Set KPIs and a simple scorecard the team actually uses
  • Drive cross-team projects from plan to finish
  • Tighten vendors, tools, and systems that slow the work down

The result: day-to-day operations that run on systems and a capable team, not on heroics.

Is it a fit?

Signs a fractional executive could help

  • You work in the business, not on it.Daily fires leave no time for strategy, planning, or growth.
  • Every decision runs through you.The team waits on the owner, and progress stalls when you are away.
  • You have outgrown how you operate. What worked at ten people is straining at thirty.
  • A full-time executive is not in the budget yet.You need senior experience without a full senior salary and benefits.
  • A transition is coming. You are planning to step back, sell, or hand off, and need someone to bridge the gap.
  • A key leader just left. You need steady interim leadership while you decide on the long-term answer.
Fractional vs. full-time

Senior experience, on terms that fit a small business.

A fractional leader is part of your team, accountable for results, on a schedule agreed up front. When the business is ready for a full-time executive, we help you hire one.

How it works

From first conversation to a team that runs without us.

  1. 1

    Fit

We talk through your goals, your team, and the gaps, then agree on the role, the time commitment, and what success looks like.

  2. 2

    First 90 days

Listen, learn the business, and deliver early wins while building a 90-day plan with your leadership team.

  3. 3

    Operate

Lead the work week to week: run the meetings, track the numbers, make decisions, and keep priorities moving.

  4. 4

    Hand off

Develop your people or help hire a full-time leader, then step back so the business keeps running on its own.

A bridge to succession
Fractional leadership is often the first step in handing off a business.

Because c2 Legacy also does succession planning, our fractional leaders work with the end in mind. A fractional CEO can run the business while a successor develops, giving the owner room to step back gradually instead of all at once.

The same work makes a company more valuable to a buyer: less dependence on the owner, documented operations, and a leadership team that can carry on after the transition. See our succession planning services.

Questions

Common questions

How much time does a fractional executive spend with us?

It depends on what the business needs. We agree on a schedule up front, whether that is set days each week or a monthly commitment, and adjust it as priorities change.

How is this different from hiring a consultant?

A consultant advises and hands you recommendations. A fractional executive sits on your leadership team, makes decisions, manages people, and is accountable for results.

Can you serve as an interim leader?

Yes. If a key leader leaves or you are between hires, we can step in to keep the business steady while you find the right long-term answer.

Will you work with my existing team?

That is the point. We lead and develop your people so the capability stays in the business after our engagement ends.
